About Me

Dr Hugh O’Connor is a consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital. He believes in providing his patients with the opportunity to make informed decisions about their own health and is committed to empowering women through their own healthcare.

Hugh initially trained in general surgery and was awarded membership by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He then completed his specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Hugh complemented his training with a two-year clinical fellowship in advanced reproductive and reconstructive pelvic surgery at Monash Health in Melbourne, Australia. This was accredited by the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES). During this time he was awarded the prestigious AGES travelling fellowship. This enabled him to travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil to work with Prof Mauricio Abrao, a world renowned expert in the management of deeply infiltrating endometriosis.

Hugh has conducted several research projects which he has presented at international academic meetings and published his work in peer reviewed journals. He continues to engage with academic community and participates in ongoing research with particular focus on minimal access gynaecology.

Hugh is passionate about the education of medical students and junior doctors. He has particular interest in providing training in surgical skills for aspiring gynaecologists.

He is married with three children.
